399 is the oldest documented "mama grizzly bear to reproduce in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Her last yearling cub was born in 2023 when she was 27 years old. She birthed 8 cubs over her lifetime. Only eight of 399’s cubs have reached adulthood. 399 was tragically killed at 28 after she ran infront of a car and was hit in October of 2024, 399 was the worlds most famous mother grizzly bear and was the muse of many photographers throughout her life.
